Bill's Italian Cookie results- as you can see, some are
grape jelly and some strawberry. Also there has got to be an easier way to
make buttercreme frosting...I used the buttercreme frosting recipe from "The
Joy of Cooking" and it was like being in Chemistry 101 again...I almost
called Cathy LaBombard to get the saturation temperature for cane sugar in
water. I had a home-made double boiler going with thermometers and timers
and damn!
Bill's Guante results- These were a snap, except rolling the dough to the right thickness takes practice and you really need to flour the table well in order to be able to pull up the strips of dough after you cut them. I used doughnut frying temperature for the oil. I also put plenty of vinilla extract in. This was my first batch, but I made another yesterday for the cookie exchange at school. Yesterday's batch came out even better. I got 140 cookies from the recipe and found that doing the old "shake and bake" with 25 cookies at a time in a freezer zip-lock bag with the powdered sugar works very well.
